Edale to Hope, March 2011
A walk from Edale to Hope via Ringing Roger, Crookstone Hill and Win Hill, in a howling gale.
The weather included sun, rain, hail and winds gusting at motorway speeds.

Grindslow Knoll, Edale, Derbyshire. Grinds Brook runs from bottom left and then round the foot of Grindslow Knoll.

Lose Hill, Derbyshire, from the north.
Immediately in front of us is a clough leading to Rowland Cote. The railway skirts the foot of Lose Hill on the way to Hope; Win Hill rises up left of shot.

Mam Tor, Derbyshire.
A none too pretty picture from a good angle. The ridge from Hollins Cross comes in from the left; the iron age rampart round the top of the hill is easily visible; the road through Mam Nick is to the right of the hill. The ridge continues off to the right up to Rushup Edge.

Wooler Knoll, Derbyshire.
The track is an old Roman road. Hope Cross is just out of shot on the left, Win Hill on the horizon at extreme left.

The southern skyline of the Vale of Edale.
Foreground to background: Lose Hill, the steep drop of Back Tor, Hollins Cross at the low point of the ridge and the long sweep up to Mam Tor. Beyond that, Chapel Gate and the ridge leading to Brown Knoll, out of shot to the right.

Northern skyline of the Vale of Edale.
From the left, the lower slope of Win Hill, Grindslow Knoll on the horizon, Crookstone Moor on the left horizon with Jaggers clough below.

The Vale of Edale, Derbyshire.
The arc of the railway skirts the lower slopes of Lose Hill left of picture, Grindslow Knoll on the horizon at centre.

View north west from above Hope Cross, Derbyshire.
En route to Win Hill looking back down the ridge. Crookstone Barn is in the clump of trees to the left, Crookstone Knoll just out of shot on the left horizon.

Partial rainbow over Ladybower Reservoir, Derbyshire.
The view north east from Win Hill; the Ashopton viaduct is mostly obscured by trees at centre of picture, the bridge at left carries the road to Bamford, with Stanage End on the horizon above.

Looking west from Win Hill towards Castleton, Derbyshire.
A shower obscures the view, Mam Tor is on the horizon at extreme right.

Ladybower Reservoir looking north from Win Hill, Derbyshire.
Derwent Edge on the horizon, Crookhill Farm at extreme right.

Looking east from Win Hill, Derbyshire.
The path to the summit is in the foreground; Yorkshire Bridge is just visible through the trees below Bamford Edge. Bamford is right of picture; the horizon is almost filled by Stanage Edge.
Millstone Edge is right of picture, just below the horizon.
